2001-08-16 - 9:36 p.m. Well, we got a very good question in the guest book. So, I"m answering it. Amazing how that works, eh? ON the submissions page, there are a few places for you to enter specific information. First, we ask that you give us your name, then what the person was searching for, then the search string URL and finally the URL of the specific entry that search hit. In case that's a little too vague (it was for me the first few million times I tried to submit stuff) I figured I'd try to simplify it a little bit. For those of you with SiteMeter hit trackers on your diaries, when you click on your logo/counter you get the page which shows your basic hit stats. On the left there is a link saying "referals". Click that and it will show you the most recent 100 visitors to your site... or rather, the referals to your site. We're taking specifically Google hits. I will post Yahoo.Google hits too because some of them are really good. But we don't use hits by MSN search engines and the like. Also, when you submit your hits, if it's a hit for a non-diaryland site, then I won't post it. Belle has talked about this before. OddGoogle is specific to diaryland. There are other sites out there that report strange search results, but we stick to Diaryland sites. This is what we need. 1. Your name. This should be the easiest part of the whole thing. If you don't know your name by now, then there's something seriously wrong. Either that or you're arguing with your various personalities to figure out which one will have dominance for that specific time period. 2. What they were looking for (ie: Simpsons Porn). This one is kinda explained too... it's the specific line of text that they were serching for. 3. OddGoogle Search String URL: This is that long-ass site address which appears in the "address" section of your browser. For me, the best way to get that, is to simply highlight the text in that address line of my browser and then right click, choosing "copy". -- When I try to copy the URL from the referals page, I get only half the search string. That's highly irritating. That might be a problem for some of you. I often see partial search strings in the submissions. 4. URL for the entry it hit: That's YOUR specific diary entry. The one that the search pointed to. For an example, let me pull up my own diary's referals and post the stuff you need to be posting to the submissions page. Name: TigreFatalis What they were searching for: "pets instead of children" OddGoogle search string URL: http://www.google.com/search?as_q=&num=10&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=pets+instead+of+children&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=lang_en&as_qdr=all URL for the entry it hit: http://TigreFatalis.diaryland.com/377.html Other things you should know... I personally will not post any submissions about incest or "pics of brother peeing" or "Aunt kissed me with tongue". Those are simply old and sick. I rarely, extremely rarely post submissions dealing with urination or defecation upon another person. That, to me, is sick and not funny at all. I rarely post fart jokes or puke jokes, simply because they're almost always extremely juvenile. If you post 25 submissions in one setting, I'll probably pick and choose between them, deleting the rest. The overkill is just... well... overkill. I do try to post all the submissions received. Even if I can't think of anything humorous to write about it. I'll often save submissions for future entries. If you think that something should be posted and hasn't been, or if you think something was deleted and shouldn't have been, write me and tell me about it. I'll try to respond as quickly as possible. I hope that has clarified matters some. And, I hope you'll now be sending me tons and tons of submissions. I thank you for your continued reading of this site and I thank Belle for giving me the opportunity to do this. I'm really, really enjoying it. Peace unto thy hearts.
